With the 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled to start tomorrow Monday June 9th, some new marketing material has mysteriously shown up on some respected blogs (Techcrunch, MacRumors, Engadget), which claim to be the new 3G iPhone. If this marketing material is accurate the new iPhone will support 3G, GPS and this part is really cool iChat. iChat is of course Apple’s online text/video application for talking with friends, colleagues and family through the internet. It’s basically the same thing as Skype, but in my opinion better.
What I find really interesting is a rumor that iChat will also come to the windows platform. This will be yet another major Apple software to be supported for both Windows and Apple. The previous two applications being iTunes and recently Safari. This move makes sense if you want customers to use iChat as the default application for video telephoning on the iPhone because it would allow users to from their computer chat with someone using an iPhone. This is really cool. It means my wife could turn on iChat from my home Mac and talk to me via iChat on my iPhone. I like the direction this is going and I hope it really happens. But alas, rumors are just rumors till tomorrow when we all get woken up. Till then I will dream.
Here is a link to a summary of all the rumors floating around for tomorrow’s conference.
